Local Planning Issues

M1 Motorway - Plans re-opened Submitted by: Brain on Feb 9, 2007

Residents of Leicester Forest East!
It appears the Highways agency have now reappraised their original idea of changes to the M1 Motorway close to a number of LFE homes. They have written to a few selected properties close to the A47/M1 Motorway bridge, hinting at minor changes to their original plan which caused a storm early in 2006.

A few salient points taken from the letter (dated 6th February 2007) suggest that they have considered four designs, and further developed two of these. They intend to distribute a booklet to all residents in LFE, Thorpe Astley, and Braunstone, in the near future.

They expect to carry out detailed design studies in June 2007, after another round of public consultation early in March. The letter hints at possible widening of the A47 bridge which would require diversion of the A47 on a temporary basis. This would not be expected to start until 2010.

The letter stresses that only residents likely to be directly affected by the two designs currently being considered have been notified to date. Therefore, we feel that the rest of the community should be made aware of these plans.
