DID YOU HAVE A NEW YEARS RESOLUTION??

Dear parents, family and friends - if your resolution has already gone pear shaped LFRFC may have the answer!!

We are looking for willing volunteers to get involved - any help will be gladly received. At our half yearly meeting (we're not big on meeting!!) we agreed that the numbers of children and young people at the club is growing and we therefore would benefit from more adults helping with coaching, supporting the coaches by helping with the practicalities such as weekly paperwork, being a nominated person on the sideline, becoming a first aider or assisting in the kitchen.

You don't have to commit to every week - please let Ady March on or one of the coaches know if you are interested.

Also if none of the above appeal but you have an interest in say organising a social event - please call me! Karen 0116 2245634 or I am in the kitchen on Sunday morning

Any commitment will be greatly appreciated and your views about what else would help are welcomed

SUNDAY MORNING CAR PARKING
As the numbers of children has increased- as rugby has a growing popularity we have at times this season seen interesting and some times dangerous parking. Yes - it may be amusing watching me run around looking for a Porsche owner - sorry ladies may have had loads of money but a bit on the mature side for me! However it was blocking a car with a sick child.
On days when the minis are playing it would help if one or two people would volunteer to do car parking duties - we do have the nice fluorescent jackets for you and we would provide the necessary refreshments for your efforts!
On most Sundays we do have 2 or some time 3 teams playing so please be mindful of access particularly if we need an emergency vehicle.
JERSEY U9'S ON TOUR
In January Jersey under 9s came and played a number of games at Forest. The day before both teams had enjoyed an afternoon at Tigers - doing a lap around the pitch before the match and watching Tigers victory against Cardiff Blues.
Thanks to all those involved and we hope you all enjoyed their visit. In April we will have sides from Preston and Guernsey vesting the club to play against junior sides.

THE SHOP
Liz and Carol would remind you all that they have lots of items available - Look out for the new sub suits in all sizes and they are hoping to start having rugby boots available.
Also watch out for a seasonal sale at the end of January into February!!

PRESENTATION DAY
At the end of every season we hold a presentation day for the minis, juniors and girls teams where the receive recognition of their involvement. As this section of the Club is now booming this year we are having one day - Sunday June 3rd but dividing the time with minis presentation in the morning then juniors and the girls early afternoon. We usually have a barbeque and outdoor games - weather permitting! This day marks the end of the season and an opportunity for us all to relax and enjoy the sunshine!

CLUB DINNER DANCE
This is an annual event for the adults where the players celebrate their successes. LFRC has three first teams, a veteran's team, colt's side as well as the minis, juniors and ladies teams.

Over recent years there have been a number of tables with parents and coaches from the mini and junior section joining in. This year the dinner/ disco is on Saturday 12th May 2007. Tables usually have about 10 people on them and the cost of the evening is £30 per person which needs paying before the evening.
Further details will be posted around the clubhouse and please ask on Sunday mornings if you wish to book places

It would be nice to see you for a night out without the children!!

To begin thank you to all of you who sold raffle tickets - the first prize of £200 went to Mrs Smart, 2nd Prize, Six Nations tickets to Mr Dexter and 3rd Prize of £100 to Liz. The raffle raised £605 - thanks again.
We are now considering a fundraising event - we would welcome your ideas - would you come along to an event for the mini and juniors section - if so what would it be?? Please give your ideas to either Liz/Carol who provide the shop or Karen/Helen in the kitchen.

CONGRATULATIONS
We would also like to extend our congratulations to one of our girl's team, Emily Scarratt who has been selected for England U19 Squad - Emily has been with the club through the mini/junior section
The Girls team is having a cracking season with very high scoring wins!! Well done to them all and we wish them and Emily every success in 2007

Home Grown Player makes England Squad
Having started playing Rugby at the tender age of 5years old, Emily Scarrett has never looked back. She progressed through the mini section at Leicester Forest, although was known as Old Bosworthians at the time. Being too old to play in the boys team, at 12 she started playing for the girls team. At the age of 13 she was selected to play at regional level and has continued to do so ever since.
In the spring of 2004, as a result of playing in the regional festival, for the East Midlands, she was invited to attend a "performance camp" at Loughborough University. She was also invited in 2005 and 2006.
At the regional festival in 2006, held at Rugby, she was highlighted as a "talented player". The result of this means that Emily is in a scheme called "TASS"(Talented athlete scholarship scheme). This scheme provides her with a fitness coach and a strength and conditioning coach, this also provides funds towards travelling expenses, kit and medical insurance.
In September 2006, she was encouraged by her coach to attend the under 19 trials for the England team. Selected from a group of over 100 girls she then had to perform well in two trials games to make the squad.
Happily she achieved this goal and was notified of her place in the England squad, and at only 16 she is the youngest member!

Leicester Forest Achieve RFU Seal of Approval
Leicester Forest RFC is pleased to announce that they have achieved the RFU seal of approval year 1. This is a recognised standard within the sport. This award means that Leicester Forest are now in the position to apply for different types of funding in the future to help further develop the club. This has been achieved through a huge amount of effort and by the way the club conducts itself. The current setup, with a thriving mini's and junior section, as well as an established senior section also played a key part in this award.
Congratulations to all those involved.
