Yet again Forest trekked down the M1 hoping for another away
win. We knew Mens Own would be tough at home and with our front
row weakened through the suspension of Deano and Lee Palmer
pulling out at short notice it meant our young front row had
to stand up and be counted.
Forest kicked off with a strong wind behind them, the ball went
out on the full meaning a scrum straight the way to test the
front row, if that wasn't enough we had 6 more scrums to follow
because of knock on's.
The front row which included Chris Phillips, Liam and Trip had
plenty of practice and didn't disappoint. The first half was
pretty much all Forest, but we couldn't capitalize because of
stupid mistakes, knock on's, composure , greed and good defense
from Men's Own. This meant the half time score was only 13 -
5 in Forest's favor. With little ball possession Men's Own managed
to score one of the best team tries seen in a while, which started
in their own twenty two.
The half time talk was about correcting mistakes and clearing
rucks out quicker, also knowing we had to score first or it
would be tough.
From the kick off Forest came out firing and scored a good team
try within five minutes. This got the team fired up, playing
relentless rugby and scoring five more tries. The half was owned
by Forest except for the last five minutes when Men's Own showed
they never give up.
A good second half made up for the first with the backs scoring
six of the seven tries including Tim Farndon getting his first
club try and James Coulthurst scoring his first try for the
first's.
